Woodworking safety basics

Eyes, ears, lungs and fingers.

6 min read

Woodworking tools can cause serious injuries. Good habits from day one keep you safe.

Every time

  • Wear safety glasses, and hearing protection with power tools
  • Read the manual for every tool before using it
  • Keep blade guards on and use push sticks near blades
  • Never reach over or behind a spinning blade
  • Unplug tools before changing blades or bits
  • Tie back long hair, remove jewelry and avoid loose sleeves
  • Don't work when tired or distracted

Dust

Fine wood dust can irritate lungs. Wear a well-fitting dust mask or respirator, and collect dust at the source where you can.

General information. Follow your tool manuals and wear eye and hearing protection. Little Birch Living isn't paid by any tool brand or store.
