Most beginner projects use a combination of glue and screws.
Basics
- Wood glue is very strong on long-grain joints
- Drill pilot holes to stop screws splitting wood
- Countersink so screw heads sit flush
- Clamp glued joints until dry, as the glue label says
- Wipe away glue squeeze-out; it blocks finishes
